Technology
Innovations in technology are way beyond human imagination. Those in western worlds are intimately familiar with it, but also technology is slowly creeping into underdeveloped countries, including Nigeria's unwieldy economy. Indeed, technology has permeated nearly every part of urban society in Nigeria. For example, people are now able to hail rides through Uber app, top up mobile airtime on an ATM machine, browse the traffic lights dotted around their route to school or simply connect with friends and family through social media. These incredible technological developments can open up a wealth of opportunity for young people, and in some cases, develop innovations that can empower them to speak out.
At Dr Nonso Nnamoko Foundation we have an ambitious technology programme that would help build brighter features for Nigerian youths. This aims to benefit young people in rural areas where unemployment is at record high, offering them personalised financial and enterprise skills training, career guidance, mentoring and work placements with the aim of supporting them through to work or setting up their own businesses. Over the next ten years we plan to invest in a technology hub within Enugu state, Nigeria which would serve as a source of income to the foundation but more importantly a platform that young people can use to hone their skills and to research and develop their business plans in technology. Further details of this plan would be revealed as we make progress with the development.
