Education is one of Dr Nonso Nnamoko Foundation's central themes and underpins much of our work. Through our open applications we provide educational support at secondary school levels and less often at higher education levels. This is because the challenges in educating young people in underdeveloped countries are enormous and our funding alone cannot meet the current demand. According to recent reports, 30 million children in sub-Saharan Africa are not receiving any form of schooling, mainly due to financial constraints.
For us at Dr Nonso Nnamoko Foundation, the key question is why these young people are not receiving education? The answer to this question lies in the growing trend of poverty caused by weakened economy in Africa. Specifically in Nigeria, we have the highest number of out of school children in the world with over 11 million children out of school. This challenge is compounded by a worsening fiscal squeeze, underinvestment in education and a population that is estimated to reach 450 million by 2050.
This is why we recognise the absolute importance of supporting young people to gain a decent education in Nigeria. In this strategic plan, we want to sharpen our focus and thus have a strong impact. The bulk of our funding will support the less privileged towards school fees and national examinations registration. We believe this will strengthen their chances of progression and employability.
